How to Save the Future without Losing the Past

Join the Edinburgh Architectural Association for an evening of discussion and debate around the challenging issue of balancing the needs of heritage and preservation whilst tackling the climate emergency.

A panel of prominent speakers from a range of design and heritage backgrounds, in conversation with EAA representatives, will share their thoughts and experiences. More info on speakers to follow.

Hannah Dalton

Hannah Dalton is an Architect at Architype where her work has included improving the building fabric of Hereford Museum and Art Gallery to the EnerPHit standard and considers that sustainable design should be at the forefront of the architectural conversation.

Gunnar Groves-Raines

Gunnar Groves-Raines is Director and founder of GRAS which evolved from a practice in conservation and restoration into a studio with a portfolio of ambitious and  progressive projects that explores the fringes of design, architecture, placemaking and future sustainability. 

Lorna Crane

Lorna Crane is an Associate Architect at Purcell with extensive knowledge in principles and techniques governing conservation repair and alteration of heritage buildings, and particular interest in adaptive re-use of existing buildings, balancing sustainability and heritage needs.

Roger Curtis

Roger Curtis is Acting Director of Operations at Historic Environment Scotland and has for many years managed the research programme on energy efficiency and traditional materials, developing good practice through cased studies in the retrofit of heritage buildings.

Yann Grandgirard

Yann Grandgirard is Head of Climate Change at Edinburgh World Heritage, leading the organisation’s response to the climate emergency. EWH are working on pilot projects and developing guidance on retrofit interventions suited to Edinburgh’s world heritage site.
