EAA AWARD WINNERS 2020
We were delighted to announce the winners of the 2020 EAA Awards in our virtual ceremony on Wednesday 4th November, after a very extended period of anticipation!
In what has been a difficult and unpredictable year for us all, the standard of entries was incredibly high, and we’d like to thank our judges RIAS President Christina Gaiger, EAA Council Member Michael Good and Fiona McLachlan from ESALA for their hard work in selecting the winners. Special thanks are also due to Amor and the team at Boxcar videos for putting together videos of the shortlists for each category, including interviews with the architects and clients and images of each project - the next best thing to viewing the buildings in person and an invaluable resource for the judges and audience alike.
The EAA Building of the Year 2020 was awarded to Page\Park Architects for Edinburgh Printmakers, with the judges concluding that “the regeneration of the existing Castle Mills Works acts as an anchor in perpetuity to the past whilst stunningly creating visibility and a presence for Edinburgh Printmakers. The design’s light touch, fabric first and honest approach to the building fabric, alongside the collaborative and commercially clever, future proofed and flexible approach to the building’s use is exceptional. The building and its architecture supports a community, a social agenda and creates social space – whilst celebrating a piece of Edinburgh’s industrial heritage.”
Congratulations to all of our shortlisted entrants and winners: as always, the Awards reveal the diversity and quality of architectural output that Edinburgh and the surrounding areas have to offer.
