JOIN THE EAA | Call for New Members!
Come and meet some EAA members on 26th March after work for a chat about what’s involved and to answer any questions you may have. We’ll be at Joseph Pearce on Elm Row from 18:00-20:00. Find out more and register below.
The EAA is recruiting new Council members and members for the EAA’s Working Groups!
We are seeking new council members who are interested in becoming actively involved with their local professional architectural chapter group. This is a great opportunity to meet other architects and members of the architectural community, and help to advance architecture and the built environment in your local area.
We are also looking to recruit members to join our Working Groups, which focus on particular areas of the EAA’s activities.
Who we are
The Edinburgh Architectural Association is one of six regional architectural chapters which comprise the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. The EAA is an independent, not for profit, Scottish Charity with over 1300 members who are chartered architects, retired architects or students.
The EAA Council consists of up to 16 council members, who are also Trustees of the Charity, and comprise a range of architects and students with various backgrounds and experience, which creates a diverse group with a spectrum of skills and interest.
We’re a sociable bunch, and in addition to our monthly Council meetings regularly meet to plan events, campaigns and activities to benefit members in the Chapter, as well as the occasional trip to the pub!
What we do
Our core objectives are to support the architectural profession locally and promote architecture and the built environment. The activities of the EAA are overseen by the Council, and we have a flexible structure of Working Groups which sit beneath this to help deliver individual projects:
Events – organisation of the annual programme of CPD events, lectures, exhibitions and building visits.
Education - working to promote architectural education, the work of architecture students and to foster stronger links between the education and practice communities.
Competitions - implementing a programme of competitions to stimulate interest and understanding in how the built environment can be improved.
Communications – tasked with overhauling the identity of the EAA through brand and website re-design. Also responsible for social media output.
Sustainability - working to promote connections between conservation, heritage and sustainability and support action to tackle the climate emergency.
Conservation - active in relation to key issues around architectural conservation through organising informative events teaching good conservation practice, and campaigning around important concerns or opportunities.
Awards - handle the organisation of the annual EAA Awards celebrating new buildings and good design in the Edinburgh area.
Planning - provides a space to discuss key planning concerns in the chapter and further afield, and feeds into other planning committees and organisations.
Additional Activities
Design input at the Edinburgh Urban Design Panel
Representation at RIAS Council and RIAS Committees
Membership consultation workshops and input on future RIAS Strategy
What can you do?
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who can give some voluntary time each month to become actively involved with the chapter group, either by joining the EAA Council as a Trustee or by contributing to the activities of the Working Groups.
Chapter Area
The EAA Chapter area comprises the City of Edinburgh, West Lothian, Mid Lothian, East Lothian, Berwick, Roxburgh, Selkirk and Peebles, the southern area of Fife with Kincardine, Kinross, Glenrothes and Lundin Links on the boundary. All RIAS members who live or study in these areas are members of the EAA and eligible to apply.
