NEW EAA PRESIDENT: Welcome Joanne!
We were delighted to welcome Joanne McClelland as our new President following her election at our AMM in April. Jo joined the EAA Council in 2020 and has been engaged in a wide range of the EAA’s activities over the last year, with a particular focus on sustainability and conservation.
After the AMM, there was an informal ‘handover’ ceremony, which, owing to the current restrictions, took place in front of a very small audience in Inverleith Park! Past President Ben presented Jo with the President’s Medal and congratulated her on her election, and we enjoyed the opportunity to see a few members of the council in person for the first time in over a year!
It has certainly been a rather different start to Jo’s tenure as President, but there are lots of exciting plans for the months and years ahead as we continue to support the architectural community and promote the cause of good architecture and design in Edinburgh, the Lothians and further afield.
John Lancaster was also elected as Vice President at the AMM. He also joined the EAA Council in 2020, and is a member of the EAA’s Education and Communications Working Groups.
We would like to thank Ben, our outgoing President, for his hard work and dedication over the last two years, particularly through the difficulties which Covid has presented to the EAA’s operations. Ben will continue to serve on the Council as Past President.
A number of Council members also stood down at the AMM, and we are grateful to all of them for their contributions to the activities of the EAA over the last year. In particular, the EAA is hugely appreciative of the hard work of Julie Wilson and Alice Henderson, who both stand down after many years on Council.
Julie finishes her term as Past President, a role which she has fulfilled for two years following a two year term as EAA President. In her time on the Council she led the EAA’s move to SCIO charitable status and has directed membership-led growth through the ‘Coarum’ events series, and has supported other members of the EAA Council and wider membership in working towards the charity’s goals.
As well as acting as Vice President, Alice has led the EAA Events team, co-ordinating our series of talks, debates, CPDs and other events and working hard to ensure that this important aspect of the EAA’s activities has always been a success.
We thank both Alice and Julie for their invaluable contributions to the EAA - they will both be greatly missed!
The EAA is led by the Council, elected at the AMM, but we are also looking for members for all of our working groups, which focus on delivering the EAA’s aims in particular areas and are open to all. For more information on how to get involved, head to the ‘About’ section of the website!
