KING’S BUILDINGS NUCLEUS
JUDGES COMMENTS
“Walking up to the Nucleus building it’s impossible to avoid being swept up in the buzz of activity around the new hub. Situated on a corner plot the building enhances a new active travel route through the campus, with the breaking up of the upper massing responding to the plot and providing a sense of welcome from each direction.
Nucleus is an apt name with the building housing several types of learning environments, teaching spaces and labs alongside communal breakout and study areas. The sense of activity within the building was electric!
The judges were impressed by the considered use of materials throughout and quality of delivery. Pale faced brick at ground level with bronze cladding over provides a sense of character and identity, displaying careful attention to composition, levels and site wide vistas. The Nucleus is also connected to the campus CHP energy centre, which is part of a future Net Zero vision for the University.“
